Description
Deutsch: Wappen der ehemaligen Stadt Bensberg seit 1975 Stadtteil von Bergisch Gladbach: „In Grün ein herschauender goldener (gelber) Hirschkopf, zwischen dem Geweih schwebend ein silberner (weißer) Schild, darin ein dopelschwänziger, blau gekrönter, blau bewehrter roter steigender Löwe.“
Das Wappen wurde 1927 vom vom preußischen Staatsministerium genehmigt. Das Wappen ist abgeleitet von einem Schöffensiegel aus dem 16. Jahrhundert; der bergische Löwe wurde hinzugefügt als Zeichen der früheren Zugehörigkeit zum Herzogtum Berg und weßt zudem auf das Bensberger Schloss als früheren Witwensitz der Landesherren hin. Der Hirschkopf erinnert an den Waldreichtum sowie die Lage Bensbergs im Königs- und Frankenforst hin.
English: „Vert, a deer head Or; between the antler an escutcheon Argent; a crowned, armed and langued azure double tailed lion rampant gules.“
The arms are based on the seal of the town from the 16th century and were granted in 1927. The arms show in the escutcheon the arms of the Counts of Berg. The deer symbolises the large forests in the area.
