Object history
Deutsch: Die Gemeinde entstand aus den zwei Dörfern Bötzingen und Oberschaffhausen. Die Oberlehensherrschaft über beide Orte hatten bis 1805 Österreich und die Markgrafen von Baden, wobei die Teilung des Herrschaftsanspruchs durch beide Orte ging. 1838 wurde eine einheitliche Gemeinde gebildet. Für den badischen Anteil ist seit 1589 der Gebrauch eines Gerichtssiegels nachweisbar. Es zeigt den gespaltenen Schild mit dem badischen Schrägbalken vorn und dem Bären, der möglicherweise „redend" für den Ortsnamen steht („Betz"), im hinteren Feld. In einem späteren Siegel befinden sich die beiden Wappenbilder je in einem gesonderten Schild. Im 19. Jahrhundert verwendete die vereinigte Gemeinde Bötzingen das Siegelbild des altbadischen Teils weiter. Das Generallandesarchiv empfahl 1907 ebenfalls die Beibehaltung des traditionsreichen Bildes und legte die Tingierung fest. Anlässlich einer Farbänderung zur Verbesserung der Zeichnung des Bären wurde die Flagge am 29. Juni 1964 vom Innenministerium verliehen.
