Summary
[edit]DescriptionCutting the lawn - Tattershall Castle - geograph.org.uk - 1457557.jpg |
English: Cutting the lawn - Tattershall Castle From the 8th to the 26th of August 2009 the castle was focus of contemporary art works and installations by six renowned artists commissioned to produce new art works inspired by the building, its people and history. Individual artists worked within a specific area of the castle, including the lawns in front of the keep, where elaborate patterns were cut in the grass. The patterns were influenced by carpets, floor decorations and interiors from the past, and reflected the hidden history and archaeology beneath the ground. As the grass grows the design gradually fades away. Visitors were able to enjoy the design from the roof of the castle.
The exhibition was among the first initiatives in a new relationship between Arts Council England and the National Trust, aimed at promoting contemporary arts and crafts in historic properties. |
