Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: A fuse cutout, a protective device used in overhead electric power distribution wires. It is a combination fuse and switch, consisting of a fusible metal rod (left) held between metal brackets supported by an insulator (right). It is used in wires that connect transformers to the distribution wires on power poles. If an electrical fault occurs, the high current will melt the fusible link, disconnecting the power. The device pivots open, giving a visible indication of trouble. The power can also be manually disconnected from the ground by a lineworker using a long insulated pole called a hot stick. |
