Español: La imagen muestra la Cruz de san Eligio (Croix de Saint-Éloi en francés) del Tesoro de Saint-Denis, representada en el cuadro La misa de San Gil, obra de un pintor anónimo conocido como el Maestro de san Gil. El cuadro data de hacia el año 1500 y se conserva en la National Gallery de Londres. La Cruz de san Eligio era una cruz de oro, plata, piedras preciosas, perlas, madreperla y un gran camafeo, que fue donada por el rey de los francos Dagoberto I (que reinó entre 1629 y 1639) a la Basílica de Saint-Denis, cercana a París. Allí se conservó durante siglos y formó parte del llamado Tesoro de Saint-Denis, que reunía muchas otras piezas históricas, artísticas y religiosas de enorme importancia para la monarquía francesa, incluyendo las coronas e insignias reales. La cruz databa de la primera mitad del siglo VII, medía cerca de 2 metros de altura y era una importante obra de orfebrería merovingia. English: The image shows the Cross of Saint Eligius (Croix de Saint-Éloi in French) from the Treasury of Saint-Denis, represented in the painting The Mass of Saint Giles, by an anonymous painter known as Master of Saint Giles. The painting, now in the National Gallery in London, dates from around 1500. The Cross of Saint Eligius was a cross of gold, silver, precious stones, pearls, mother of pearl and a large cameo, which was donated by Dagobert I, king of all the Franks (who reigned between 629 and 639) to the Basilica of Saint-Denis, close to Paris. It was preserved there for centuries and it was part of the Treasure of Saint-Denis, together with many other historical, artistic and religious pieces of enormous importance to the French monarchy, including royal crowns and regalia. The cross dated from the first half of the 7th century, was about 2 meters high and was an important Merovingian goldsmithing work. It was considered the work of Eligius of Noyon (later canonized by the Church as Saint Eligius, patron of goldsmiths, blacksmiths, and all workers in metal). The cross was seized and melted during the French Revolution (1789-1799).
