Description
English: Red diamond rattlesnake (Crotalus ruber).

location: Dirt road from Irvine Park to Santiago Oaks Park in Orange, CA. The snake was on the road, partially in the bushes, near the Villa Park, Dam.

I was walking back towards Villa Park Dam, just outside of Santiago Oaks Park when the rattlesnake in this image rattled loudly, I was only a couple of feet from stepping on it when I heard it. It was so dark that I couldn't see anything but the glint of the moon off the white area underneath its head. I aimed my camera by putting the focus beam on the white glint. When the flash went off, this medium sized rattlesnake appeared out of the dark.
