Les cartes postales illustrées du commerce ont pratiquement disparu de la circulation pendant la guerre peut-être sur demande de la Censure (possibilité de dissimulation d'indices dans l'illustration). Les troupes japonaises en ont aussi utilisé un grand nombre, sans limitation apparente. On ne connaît à ce jour que quelques cartes civiles la plupart sur support hétéroclite photo ou carte interzone utilisée localement.

(1) Pendant très longtemps on a cru que cet entier avait été bloqué dans un port de transit et n'était arrivé en Indochine qu'après la guerre. Il est maintenant prouvé qu'un certain nombre d'exemplaires ont pu arriver en Indochine début 1940 ou 1941, probablement par le transsibérien.
