Summary[edit]
DescriptionCortona chart (c.1300).jpg |
English: The Carta di Cortona, one of the world's oldest surviving nautical charts. Anonymous and undated, it was discovered in 1957. It is sometimes estimated to be dated as early as between 1232 and 1258, although more recent scholars have estimated it c.1300, near-contemporary but probably after the Carta Pisana. The surviving piece covers only the eastern Mediterranean, it seems there was a west Mediterranean that was cut away at some point. It is held (Port.105) by the Biblioteca dell'Accademia Etrusca in Cortona, Italy |
