Cortinarius vernalishastensis Bojantchev, Ammirati, Niskanen & Liimat. sp.nov. Image location: Eastern Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Siskiyou Co., California, USA Growing near mixed conifers ~ 4900 ft and ~ 100 yds from MO#317149. Caps up to 5.7 cm across. Stipe with some yellow patches at base and with a evanescent annular zone between the base and mid-stipe. Spores ~ 8.0-10.3 X 4.9-6.0 microns, elongate and slightly to moderately rough. UV light on dried material only gave some pinkish spots at base of stipe. These appear to be younger versions of MO#317149. Recognized by sight
