Summary[edit]

Description

Cortinarius subminiatopus Kytov.

Image location: Ugut, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug—Yugra, Russia

An unusual Cortinarius we found in a patch of old (nearing the peak of successsion) mixed taiga forest (Pinus sibirica, Picea obovata, Populus tremula, Pinus sylvestris, Abies sibirica, Betula pendula). It’s almost fluorescently bright with its orange glow, recalling a Dermocybe, but otherwise almost leprocybeoid. C. cinnabarinus and C. bulliardii come to mind, but those are both nemoral broadleaf forest species and look different. I’m wondering if anybody has seen anything similar in boreal latitudes.

Recognized by sight: Many thanks to Dr. Niskanen for the id suggestion!
