Summary[edit]
DescriptionCorps contractor digs deep for answers (6462034459).jpg | The view looking down of a special deep-drilling rig along the American River’s north bank in Sacramento, Calif., Nov. 18, 2011. Corps contractors are collecting samples of riverbank soil in 24-inch-tall, 4-inch-wide clear tubes, sealing them with wax and sending them to a lab for analysis. A total of seven samples were taken in November between Watt Avenue and the J Street Bridge. Engineers are assessing erosion and seepage risk along the riverbank as part of the Corps’ American River Common Features General Reevaluation Report, determining the federal plan to provide additional flood risk reduction to Natomas as well as the rest of the City and County of Sacramento. The sampling areas are left in better condition than before: They are filled with special material that prevents water seepage. (U.S. Army photo by Todd Plain/Released) |
