English: Jackie (born before 1915, died 1921) was a baboon who accompanied the South African army during the First World War and was injured repeatedly being shot in the shoulder and blown up such that he lost leg. He was given a Pretoria Citizen’s Service Medal and listed as a corporal. He died at home in a fire less than a year later. |
