Description
English: A copper alloy Roman zoomorphic plate brooch dating to c AD 100-200. The brooch is in the shape of a hen or cockerel. It is incomplete, with part of the pin and catch plate are missing. The main body of the brooch is hollow and oval in plan but rises at one end to form the head of the bird which has a ring and dot eye.At the other end there is a curved projection forming the tail.The tail has a small circular hole at its base.The back of the bird is decorated with cells filled with pale blue, dark blue, red and yellow enamel.The underside is hollow and plan.
