Copper alloy strap fitting in the form of an acorn c. 1600-1700AD
Description
English: An almost complete copper alloy strap mount in the form of an acorn. Probably seventeenth century (AD 1600 - AD 1700). The front of the mount is divided into two. The upper half is plan and has a small knop at the apex. The lower half is decorated with incuse hatching to mimic the acorn seed. At the base of the object is a small projection representing the sta­lk. The rear of the object has the remains of two integral spikes. The object is in good condition with a mid to dark green patina.

Length: 31.2mm; width: 15mm; thickness: 3mm; thickness (including spikes): 5.6mm; weight: 3.6g
