Title
Copper alloy strap fitting c.1200-1700
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy strap fitting, of probable Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating (AD 1200 to AD 1700).

The strap fitting was originally sexfoil (six lobed) in shape, with a pointed oval suspension loop at the top of the artefact. The fitting would have been split to allow for attachment of a strap. The "back" half of this split is now missing. The fitting would have been held in place with a single rivet in the lobe opposite the suspension loop. Most of this lobe is now missing, but part of the original rivet hole can still be seen.

The suspension loop is located above the largest lobe, with a horizontal collar separating it from the sexfoil terminal. The suspension loop is a pointed oval in shape, with a circular suspension hole present. This has an internal diameter of 5.5 mm. The front edges of the strap fitting are bevelled. The strap fitting has is a dark green colour, with even surface patina.

Length: 33.67mm; width: 20.05mm; thickness: 1.66mm; weight: 5.3g.

For similar sexfoil strap fitting on the PAS database see WMID-8C8C83 and WMID-94D978.
