Copper alloy ring stopper (tamper) with initials TB dating c. 1640-1720.
Description
English: Copper alloy ring stopper (tamper) for use with a tobacco pipe. The ring has a flat oval bezel bearing the initials TB flanking a stylised tobacco plant motif. The plain shoulders taper to the base of the loop.  At the junction of the ring and the stem is a single moulded collar. The tamper part then tapers to a foot that has a moulded collar and is circular in plan.

Length: 43.1mm; width of ring: 21.8mm; thickness of bezel: 13.7mm; diameter of tamper stem: 3.6mm tapering to 4.4mm; depth of foot: 3.8mm; diameter of foot: 8.7mm; weight: 7.8g.
