Title
Copper alloy object of unknown date or function.
Description
English: Unidentified copper alloy object of unknown date. The object appears to be some sort of decorative finial or spout. The central part of the object is hollow and tapers from approximately 8mm diameter at the top to 21mm at the bottom. At the top of this central section, on the back, are the Roman numerals XXXI. Just below this is a rear-facing bifurcated projection with small pin-holes, again suggesting it could be attached to something. At the base of this central section there is a circular hole with an internal diameter of 5.2mm which may have held a rivet or nail to attach the object to a possible wooden post/staff. The lower part of the object has three broadly square projections - one towards the front and one on each side. These projections are hollow, but do not link through to the central part of the object. Each projection is moulded decoration in the form of small notches. The whole object is decorated with a series of incised lines. Most of the surface of the object has a dark green patina, but with some patches of corrosion.

Height: 70.1mm; width: 11.5mm; thickness (including rear-facing projection): 52.2mm; length of each square projection: 14.6mm; height of each square projection: 13mm; width of each square projection: 13mm; weight: 97.22g
