Title
Copper alloy medieval dagger guard
Description
English: A complete copper-alloy dagger guard (quillon) of Medieval date (c. 1200-1400AD).
The central block is roughly oval in plan and rectangular in cross-section. At the centre of the block, is trapezoidal-shaped hole which has a length of 12.7mm, a maximum width of 5mm. The two arms are of equal length. Each arm is roughly square in cross-section. The arms taper in width from the central block and then expand to form terminals which are sub-circular in shape when viewed from the end. The finger stop projects outwards at a right angle to one side of the central block. It flares in width to form a axe shape which has rounded edges. Neither of its faces is decorated. The object has a pale green patina.
