Title
Copper alloy furniture fitting or escutcheon with floral motifs c. 1650-1800AD.
Description
English: An incomplete sheet copper-alloy furniture fitting of probable late 17th to 18th century date (c. 1650-1800AD). When complete the fitting is likely to have been symmetrical and appears to represent a stylised floral motif.  The surviving section has a central, broadly pear-shaped body with two wings on either side (one of which is now missing). At the base of the central section is a semi-circular projection that terminates in a small, rounded knop which is pierced with a circular fastening hole. The surviving wing also has a small circular fastening hole.   The fitting is decorated on one side only with a crudely engraved stylised tulip design and a series of scallops, rings and dots.

The object has traces of black coating or tinning with copper showing through where this has worn away.  For similar examples on the database see HAMP-2BB972, IOW-1E2AC3 and DOR-A2D44B
