Copper alloy applique or mount from a chest or box, 2nd century AD.
Description
English: Roman hollow copper alloy mount, probably an applique from a box or chest dating to the 2nd Century AD, in the form of a satyr, a frequent subject for such objects, with a nebris (animal skin wrap) over his right shoulder. To the reverse, which is hollow, is the remains of an iron pin that would have been used to attach the object to the chest or item of furniture.

See ESS-C55282 and WILT-074FD1 on the database for similar examples although this is the first of this type to be recorded for Wales.
