Description |
English: Complete copper alloy trumpet brooch from the Roman period, AD75-175. The brooch has an oval shaped head with a single pieced lug, to which is attached the spring and axial bar. The bow arches out from the head and tapers towards the foot knob. There is a rounded moulding at the mid point of the bow which is flat on the back of the bow, and there is a linear ridge below. The catchplate is complete and appears to be decorated on both sides with a narrow zig-zag line running down the edge of the bow.The pin is complete.The brooch has a mid green patina but there are traces of possible tinning or silvering on the bow and around the head.
Length: 48mm; width of head: 10.6mm; width of bow: 7.25mm; thickness of bow: 4mm; weight: 13.8g. |
