Title |
Copper alloy Medieval harness pendant |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy harness pendant from the Medieval period.
It is a shield shaped pendant with a circular attachment loop cast integrally. It still has part of the supsension mechanism attached to the loop. The front of the pendant is decorated, the reverse is plain. The decoration consists of a bend in which there are 3 birds flying left. There are traces of gilt on the birds and it is likely they would have been completely gilded. The rest of the shield appears to be plain but there is some corrosion and wear so this may not have been the case originally. Harness pendants often have the coat of arms of a specific family on them, although sometimes it is just a generic pattern. It may be that this pendant relates to a specific family but this has not been identified |
