Title |
Copper alloy Medieval book clasp (Howsam type A.1.1) dating from AD 1350 - 1450 |
||
Description |
English: A copper alloy Medieval book clasp of the zoomorphic, pierced and hinged type (Howsam type A.1.1) dating from AD 1350 - 1450. The main part of the clasp comprises an oval section with a hole at the centre that would have fitted over a peg on the cover of the book. From this oval section is a projection with a zoomorphic terminal on one side, with a circular hole at right angles to the plain of the clasp. From the other side is a bar that would have held a rectangular plate. The object has a dark green patina. For similar, more complete, examples on the database see SWYOR-CB3D65 and SWYOR-0B8297. Length: 24.99mm; width: 12.5mm; thickness: 7.4mm; weight: 5.7g |
