Description |
English: A large motel-type lodge is under construction, surrounded by mostly open landscape. Bluffs Lodge - Doughton Park. The current lodge area was set aside in the late 1930s, and designs for the lodge appear as early as 1943. The project architect wanted to continue in the rustic style development along the highway, but given the post-war budget and reassessment of materials and costs, the building was constructed in a "plainer, more economical style." The lodge depicts changes in style at this time, as well as an overall transition from cabins to motel-style lodging.
