Description

This crane car was built in 1955 and used as Erie Railroad # 3302 and subsequently, Conrail # 45210. It is now part of the collection at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in the town of Strasburg.

Info. from rgusrail.com: "The Industrial Brownhoist Company, Bay City, Michigan, built this crane for the Erie Lackawanna in 1954. Numbered # 03302 and based in Meadville, Pennsylvania, it transferred to Conrail in 1976 and was renumbered # 50212. Conrail based it in Conway, Pennsylvania, and at some time, it was renumbered # 45210.

  1. 45210 weighs 192 tons, is powered by two 140 horsepower Cummins engines and has a lifting capacity of 250 tons at a 17 feet, 6 inch radius.

Conrail donated # 45210 to the museum in 1997. It is on display with Conrail idler car # 31188, formerly Pennsylvania Railroad # 470189.

Industrial Brownhoist was a major supplier of cranes to the railroad industry and many have been preserved."
