Description
Español: Placa conmemorativa a José Torrubia (1698-1761) en Molina de Aragón (Guadalajara, España), en el muro de la torre de la iglesia del monasterio de San Francisco.
Texto: «A la memoria de Fray José Torrubia, cuyo descubrimiento de 'piedras figuradas' en los alrededores de Molina de Aragón el 10 de Agosto de 1750, constituyó el punto de partida para el conocimiento científico de los fósiles de España. La Sociedad Española de Paleontología, dos siglos y medio más tarde, conmemora este acontecimiento. 30 de Octubre de 1999».
La placa se erigió en el marco de las XV Jornadas de Paleontología, celebradas en Madrid.
English: Conmemorative plaque of José Torrubia (1698-1761) in Molina de Aragón (Guadalajara, Spain), on the wall of the tower of the church of the monastery of San Francisco.
Translated text: "In memory of Fray José Torrubia, whose discovery of 'figured stones' around Molina de Aragon on August 10, 1750, was the starting point for the scientific knowledge of the fossils of Spain. The Spanish Society of Paleontology, two and a half centuries later, commemorates this event. October 30, 1999".
The plaque was placed in the framework of the XV Jornadas de Paleontología, held in Madrid.
