Summary[edit]

Description
English: The West Seneca Community Center and Public Library, 1300 Union Road, West Seneca, New York, June 2022. Designed by the architectural firm of Clark Patterson Lee, it hardly needs to be said that the stylistic inspiration for this $13.5 million building is Frank Lloyd Wright, whose Buffalo-area buildings represent arguably the most consequential cluster of Prairie School masterpieces of any city outside Chicago. The building contains not only the two institutions in its title but also the home offices of the West Seneca Chamber of Commerce, a location of Spot Coffee, a recreation center with a basketball court, and rentable meeting and event space. When the building was completed in 2018, it was intended as the opening salvo in a multiyear effort to remake this stretch of Union Road into a walkable town center for the sprawling, heretofore decentralized suburb of West Seneca, an effort that is also proposed to include a HAWK signal and other traffic calming measures, a requirement for new buildings to be built to the street with rear-facing parking lots, and, eventually, a road diet for Union Road.
