Description: In 1900, Queen Victoria sent 40,000 boxes of chocolates, actually decorated tins, to the troops in South Africa fighting the Boer War.This is a photograph of the lid of one of these tins. It shows a portrait of a young Queen Victoria in the centre, with the royal coat of arms at the left and the words "South Africa 1900" to the right. She has signed it at the bottom with the words: "I wish you a happy New Year"
