GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (May. 13, 2011) – A digital image rendering of the exterior of the Wayne N. Aspinall Federal Building in Grand Junction, Colo. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District’s regulatory office is located in the 92-year-old historic building, which is currently undergoing renovations by the U.S. General Services Administration to achieve net zero LEED Platinum energy usage. LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a voluntary, consensus-based standard to support and certify successful green building design, construction and operations according to the U.S. Green Building Council. Platinum is the highest of the four categories used by LEED. Scheduled to be completed in January 2013, the renovation is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and could be the first net zero federal building on the National Register of Historic Places once completed.
