'Het fort Rotterdam in Makassar'
Fort Rotterdam in Makassar werd in 1673 voltooid en is gebouwd op het oude fort van de Buginese vorst van Gowa. Vanuit dit fort controleerden de VOC en later de koloniale overheid het bestuur en de handel van Sulawesi. Het fort is gebouwd met vier bastions op de hoeken en ligt vlakbij de zee.

De verbannen Javaanse Prins Diponegoro werd in Fort Rotterdam gevangen gehouden. In 1908 verloor het fort de militaire functie. Na de onafhankelijkheid gebruikte het Indonesische leger het gebouw, totdat het in de 21e eeuw een cultureel centrum werd. De plattegrond van het fort heeft de vorm van een schildpad.

Benteng Rotterdam di Makassar selesai dibangun pada tahun 1673 dan dibangun di atas benteng tua penguasa Bugis Gowa. Dari benteng inilah VOC dan kemudian pemerintah kolonial menguasai administrasi dan perdagangan Sulawesi. Benteng ini dibangun dengan empat bastion di sudut-sudutnya dan terletak di dekat laut.

Pangeran Diponegoro dari Jawa yang diasingkan ditawan di Fort Rotterdam. Pada tahun 1908, benteng tersebut kehilangan fungsi militernya. Setelah kemerdekaan, militer Indonesia menggunakan gedung tersebut hingga menjadi pusat budaya pada abad ke-21. Peta benteng berbentuk kura-kura.
