Deutsch: „Alte Thorschenke“, Brückenstraße 3, in Cochem (Ostseite). Laut Ernst Wackenroder, Die Kunstdenkmäler des Landkreises Cochem, ISBN 3-422-00561-7, ist das Hotel „Alte Thorschenke“ ein ursprünglich 1625 an der Stadtmauer errichtetes Wohnhaus mit zwei Steingeschossen und einem Fachwerkobergeschoss. In den Feldern unter den Fenstern stehen jeweils in einem Kranz links das Jahr der Erbauung und die Initialen des Erbauers, MB, und rechts die Initialen seiner Ehefrau, MW. Auf der Website des Hotels heißt es abweichend von diesen Angaben: „Als eines der ältesten Hotels Deutschlands, erbaut im Jahr 1332, begrüßt die Alte Thorschenke seit Jahrhunderten Gäste aus aller Welt.“ Die Figur an der Ecke des Fachwerkgeschosses beschreibt Wackenroder als Abguss einer spätgotischen Holzfigur der Muttergottes mit dem Kinde, was aber ein Irrtum oder ein Verwechslung sein dürfte; denn die Figur, die auch in Wackenroders Buch zu sehen ist, trägt einen Bart. Es ist eher der hl. Josef mit dem Jesuskind zu vermuten. Die in den Türsturz eingemeißelte Jahreszahl 1332 bezeichnet den Baubeginn der Stadtbefestigung in Verbindung mit der Erteilung der Stadtrechte. |
