La blasonatura di S.E. Mons. Fumagalli si compone dei seguenti elementi: sullo Scudo azzurro si stagliano tre Stelle d’oro, una Rosa a cinque petali e Ancora di color argento. L’azzurro dello scudo richiama la Chiesa e la Vergine Maria, Madre della Chiesa; le tre Stelle d’oro simboleggiano la Trinità ed insieme le tre virtù teologali: Fede, speranza e Carità; la Rosa a cinque petali simboleggia il mondo e l’Ancora è segno dell’Incarnazione.

Compito della Chiesa, sull’esempio della Vergine Maria, e del Vescovo, è annunciare al mondo l’Amore del Padre del Figlio e dello Spirito Santo rendendo sempre vivo ed attuale il mistero dell’Incarnazione.

Nel suo ministero il Vescovo è chiamato a gettare sempre le reti confidando nella presenza del Signore: In Verbo Tuo laxabo rete. è il motto riportato nel cartiglio (cfr. Lc 5,5).
