Der Schild des Wappens von Weihbischof Dr. Dominikus Schwaderlapp zeigt heraldisch rechts – und damit für den Betrachter links – das Wappen des Erzbistums Köln: ein schwarzes geständertes Kreuz auf weißem (oder silbernem) Grund (siehe Bild unten). Links sind drei rote Schrägbalken auf weißem (oder silbernem) Grund zu sehen, belegt mit einem blauen Krug. Damit wird das Wappen der Stadt Ransbach-Baumbach im Westerwald zitiert, der Heimat von Weihbischof Schwaderlapp. Der Krug erinnert an das Kannenbäckergewerbe, ein traditionelles Handwerk in diesem Teil des Westerwaldes, aber auch an die biblische Erzählung von der Hochzeit zu Kana (Joh 2, 1–11).

Der Wappenschild steht vor einem gelben (oder goldenen) Kreuz und wird umrahmt von dem so genannten Prälatenhut in Grün, von dessen grünen Schnüren beiderseits sechs Quasten herabfallen.

Der lateinische Wappenspruch „GAUDENTES PATIENTES INSTANTES“ bedeutet übersetzt „Fröhlich, geduldig, beharrlich“ und ist dem Römerbrief (Röm 12, 12) entnommen. Vollständig lautet das Bibelzitat: „Seid fröhlich in der Hoffnung, geduldig in der Bedrängnis, beharrlich im Gebet“.
