Apafi Mihály, Erdély fejedelme, a Magyar Királyság részeinek ura, a székelyek ispánja 1665. augusztus 25-én Radnót várában kelt oklevelével nemesi rangra emelte kisbaconi Benedek Mihályt, általa fiait, Benedek Jánost, Istvánt, Mátét és Mihályt, továbbá leszármazottjaikat, és címert adományozott nekik. A nemeslevelet a Magyar Nemzeti Levéltár Országos Levéltára őrzi. A 69 cm széles és 33 cm magas pergamenen az adományosok neve a következőképpen jelenik meg: Michael Benedek de Kis Baczon, Joannes, Stephanus, Mateus (illetve egy ízben Matheus) és Michael. Az adományozó neve Michael Apafi a titulatúrában és a fejedelem aláírásában is. A dokumentumot Bethlen János kancellár (Joannes Betlen) és Lugosi Ferenc (Franciscus Lugasi) kancelláriai titkár ellenjegyezte. Az armálist piros-fehér-zöld-kék szálakból sodort zsinóron függő, fatokba helyezett fejedelmi vörös viaszpecséttel erősítették meg. A pecsét ábrája: zárt fejedelmi koronával fedett, kétszer ívelt talpú nagypajzs, amelynek pajzsfőjében elöl naparc, hátul megszemélyesített, sugárzó növekvő holdsarló, a székelyek jelképe látható, heraldikai jobb alsó negyedében az erdélyi vármegyéket jelképező növekvő sas, balról a szászok hét bástyája 1-1-2-3-as osztásban. Az ovális szívpajzsban az Apafi család címere: a harántmetszés irányában karddal alulról átszúrt rákfarkas sisak, amelyet egy tőkéből induló, fent kettéhajló leveles-gerezdes szőlőágak öveznek. Mindkét pajzsot barokk kartus díszíti. A pecsét körirata: MICHAEL APAFI D[EI] G[RATIA] PRINCEPS TRAN[SILVANIAE] PAR[TIUM] R[EGNI] HU[NGARIAE] D[OMUNUS] ET SI[CULORUM] CO[MES], azaz: Apafi Mihály, Erdély fejedelme, a Magyar Királyság részeinek ura és a székelyek ispánja. A nemeslevél hátoldalán két záradék látható. Egyik szinte olvashatatlanná halványult. A levéltár kivonata szerint kelte 1686. március 9., hitelesítője Angyalossy István jegyző. Az alatta levő bejegyzés jól olvasható. Eszerint az adományt ellenvetés nélkül kihirdették Udvarhely székely szék 1699. december 16-án Udvarhely városában tartott közgyűlésén. A záradék hitelesítője Pálffi Ferenc (Franciscu Palffi) esküdt, Udvarhelyszék jegyzője. A címer leírása: Kék színű katonai pajzs, amelynek mezejében vagy telkén kék ruhába öltözött ember könnyedén lovagolni, jobbjával lándzsát emelni, bal kezével a ló gyeplőjét tartani látszik. A pajzs fölé zárt katonasisak van helyezve, ezt ékkövekkel és gyöngyökkel díszített királyi fejék fedi, a sisak csúcsából eredő különféle színű pántlikák a pajzs széleit igen szépen övezik és díszítik. A pergamen elejére megfestett címert nem helyezték címerszőnyegbe, nem rajzolták keretbe, mint ahogyan a fejedelmi kancellárián szokás volt. A leírásban szereplő zárt katonasisak helyett pántos tornasisak szerepel, mérete kisebb a megszokottnál, s helyzete is eltérő, nem jobbra fordult, hanem szembenéző. A fakó ló nyeregtakarója vörös, a kékbe öltözött lovas kucsmája szintén. A címerfestményben a lovat zöld talajra helyezték. A sisaktakaró egyfelől kék-arany, másfelől vörös-ezüst. A címert vélhetően utólag festették rá a nemeslevélre. Ettől még érvényes a dokumentum: pecséttel megerősítették, a fejedelem aláírta, a kancellár és a titkár ellenjegyezte, későre ugyan, de a szék közgyűlésén kihirdették. This file depicts the official coat of arms or flag of a Hungarian municipality. According to 1.§ (4) of the Hungarian copyright law (1999./LXXVI.), copyright protection does not cover "legal provisions, other means of state direction, court and other official resolutions, announcements and documents issued by an authority or other official organ, as well as standards made obligatory by law and other similar regulations."
