English: Stamped lead cloth seal with only one disc and two stubs from the attachment strip on the back remaining. The seal has a raised spade-shaped shield with a central band or 'fesse' with three woolpacks or 'madderbags' between two fields of what look like berries with foliage above them. The shield has then been overstamped with a raised 'X' within a recessed square which may be a privy mark. The 'X' may represent the number 10 and may be referring to the number of washes to increase the intensity of the red dye, but is more likely to refer to the weight of the madder bag in pounds.

Egan (1995) illustrates a clothiers' / weavers' / searchers' seal with the numerals 'XV' on one disc, denoting the weight of the cloth, on page 185, Fig.34, No.257, which dates from the late 16th century. He also illustrates two lead cloth seals with a shield with a chevron dividing three madderbags, which was used by the London Dyers' Company from the late 16th to the late 17th century, on page 186, Fig.35, Nos.267-8. No.267 also has what appears to be the leaves, stems and berries of the madder plant above the shield, which could relate to the simplified version on this cloth seal, but they are too small and worn to discern.
