Summary[edit]
DescriptionCleaning up the field (1879820006).jpg |
Tomatoes were here. The plants were on black plastic film with drip line underneath. We have an implement that goes on the tractor to loosen the plastic so we can take it up at the end of the season. Here you can see the process. We have to loosen the plastic (as above), then pick it up and stuff it into trash bags (as above). The trash bags are old fertilizer bags and growing medium bags. Rather than just throw out the bag, we use it as a trash bag. When we get the plastic out of the field we can rototill the area to break up the weed clumps and flatten out the field, then spread winter rye seed and disk it in lightly. We generally try to do this by mid October, but the season has hung on late this year. |
