| Description |
A return visit to the Clarks Village Outlet Shopping in Street, Somerset. Went back to Clarks Village on the way home after a week in Dorset. This house near Clarks Village was behind hoardings. By the time I came back a week later, some of them had been taken down. Saw it originally 3 years earlier. It is The Grange. Grade II listed from the Clarks Village. <a href="http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-267775-the-grange-street" rel="noreferrer nofollow">The Grange, Street</a> STREET CP BARN CLOSE (East side) ST43NE 10/62 The Grange (previously listed as The Grange and the Barn, Barn Close) 8.11.49 - II (Marked on O.S. map as Street House). Country house, now offices. House for Glastonbury Abbey, ante 1539; much rebuilt for Strode family c1650; refronted for Brown family c1810. Render. rusticated ashlar quoins, cornice, parapet with 3 inset oblong panels, coping, hipped slate roof, brick stacks. Symmetrical East front of 1:1:1 bays, centre breaks forward slightly, tripartite sash windows of 4:12:4 lights, tripartite French windows to ground floor with fluted detail. Ten-column Tuscan colonnade to ground floor, centre portion breaks forward in a semi-circle. North return with 2 and 3-light mullioned and transomed windows. Interior with door opening in a 4-centred head stone surround; further early C19 features. (McGarvie M., Guide to Historic Street, unpublished).
