| Description |
English: Scan of black and white printed card 2 7/16" wide x 4 3/8" long. The card reads, "THE EAGLE OF THE REPUBLIC. What do you see in this picture?" The publication information on the bottom reads, "Entered according to act of Congress in the Year 1865 by L. PRANG & CO. in the Clerks Office of the Distr. Court of Mass."
The drawing is an optical illusion. The eagle's claw rests on the face of Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy. The wings of the eagle outline the profiles of George Washington on the left, and Abraham Lincoln on the right. The back of the card is blank. Above the eagle is an angel carrying a halo in its hand. |
