Summary[edit]

Description
English: T. Garnier.

T. Garnier. Cité Industrielle, Lyon, 1899-1917.

The Cité Industrielle is a hygienic, socially utopian city that was highly influential at important expert gatherings where architects and town planners shared ideas, such as the Congrès internationaux d’Architecture moderne (CIAM, 1928-1959), because of its strict separation of functions. Le Corbusier applauded the Cité in the periodical L’Esprit nouveau (1921) as a prototype for the functional city, where the separation of functions fostered public health.
