Summary[edit]

Description
Scale in thirds, forming the seven triads in root position
Scale in sixths. This 7-gon is found twice in the 14-gon.
Tonnetz

First and second inversions of the triads in the a/C scales

  minor third (3 semitones)
  major third (4 semitones)
  perfect fourth (5 semitones)

  augmented fourth (6 semitones)

Fourths are marked with a black bar.
Perfect fourths of minor/major triads are blue/red. The augmented fourth of the diminished triad is black.

m3 P4 first major short
P4 M3 second major long
M3 P4 first minor long
P4 m3 second minor short

The inversion of a minor or major triad (sixth chord) is either short (spanning a m6) or long (spanning a M6).
The inversions of the diminished triad are both long.

The pattern in the middle could create the impression that there are seven straight lines through the center.
But actually only the horizontal line is straight. The other six are off by one semitone, i.e. bent by 6°.

The "diagonals" go only through the upper corners.
This SVG was created with Inkscape.
