Basilius Innovatus, das ist, Fr. Basilii Valentini, Ordin. Benedict. Chymische Schrifften ... nebst einer neuen Vorrede, worinnen von Lesung und Critique der Alchymistischen Schrifften, ihren Scribenten, neuen Projections - Historien, der Materia Prima Philosophica, dem Leben des Basilii, und was in dieser Edition besonders praestiret worden einige Nachricht mitgetheilet wird von Bened. Nic. Petraeo. Hamburg : Samuel Heyle, 1717. A man wearing a monk's robe with a tonsure stands, facing right, holding a piece of glassware in his left hand; his right hand rests upon a book. The legend around the portrait reads: "FRATER BASILIVS VALENTINVS BENEDICTINI ORDINIS MONACHVS ET PHILOSOPHVS HERMETICVS", or "Brother Basil Valentine, Monk of the Order of St. Benedict and Hermetic Philosopher". On the table, the Philosopher's stone (symbolized as a basilisk) rests in a philosophical egg. Further alchemical imagery is shown behind and below him.
