Summary[edit]

Description
English: 2015 large lock maintenance, Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, Seattle, Washington. Looking northwest. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Seattle District Ranger Peggy Marcus stands atop a temporary wooden staircase, in an entrance to one of the two penstock tunnels by which water would normally enter and leave the lock. The scaffolding at left is basically a staircase to get in and out of the pumped-out lock.
This is in between the normal lower (seaward) gate of the locks off camera at right (see File:Chittenden Locks during large lock maintenance 001.jpg) and a gate mitred in the opposite direction off camera at left (see File:Chittenden Locks during large lock maintenance 002.jpg), which provides the seal for pump-out.
