Description The following is the author's description of the photograph quoted directly from the photograph's Flickr page.
"Today's theme is 'kids'

One of the long-standing relationships we're building is with the Bagrami Village across the river. The villagers can see us and the rest of Jalalabad, but the Kabul river means the kids have almost no education or healthcare.

It takes 6 hours to get to a health care clinic or school by donkey (more than 45 minutes via 4 wheel jeep driven by a dangerous/expert driver). The river can be dangerous (remember like in Oregon Trail?). We're helping connect those dots a bit.

The kids, they break my heart. (The adults are great too, but these kids are off-the-chart cute.

This time we were bringing them materials to help make the river crossing easier... 150 meters of cable and the tools and equipment necessary to bolt it to big rocks and tighten it. This takes the 6 hour donkey ride and turns it into a five minute boat/bridge trip.

These people are a bit close to my heart because they're settled down Kuchis. They're a disenfranchised people whose lifestyle is being stripped away. I probably over-romanticise their culture (read Dune too much as a kid), but I very much want them to get some of the good benefits of the lifestyle change. "
