Comeon! and off they raced. Chickadee-dee bobbedalong as fast as he could fly, but Nutty reachedthe goal first, just by the flick of a wing. Old Mr. Downy Woodpecker, who was cling-ing to the trunk of the hickory-tree, watched therace with much interest. Good work, Nutty! he cried. Tm gladyou birds are getting your muscle up. Youllneed it when the time comes for you to keep allthese tree trunks and branches free from harm-ful grubs and insects, the way I have to. My muscles pretty good, said Chickadee-dee eagerly.
