Summary
[edit]The plan of the first story of Chatsworth from Colen Campbell's Vitruvius Britannicus (several volumes early to mid 18th century, specific volume not known).
"First story" matches modern American usage, but in modern British English this is the ground floor. This shows the house as it was in the early 18th century, after reconstruction for the 1st Duke of Devonshire. The 19th century north wing had not been built. The scale bar at the bottom is 40 feet (12.2 metres) long.
