Колнетт находился в длительном путешествии по Тихому океану, хронику которого он опубликовал в 1798 году в книге с длинным названием "Путешествие в южную часть Атлантического океана, вокруг мыса Горн и по Тихому океану, с целью расширения китобойного промысла и других видов коммерческой деятельности, изучения наличия портов, бухт, гаваней и мест, пригодных для стоянок на отдельных островах и участках побережья, где возможно будет организовать починку судов английских купцов и торговцев".На данной карте, изданной в 1798 году известным лондонским издателем карт Аароном Эрроусмитом, прослеживается маршрут "Рэттлера" и приводится первая точная морская карта островов. Галапагосские острова являются провинцией в составе Эквадора.

Il était en train de faire un grand voyage vers le Pacifique dont il fit la chronique dans un livre publié en 1798 sous le titre très long de Un voyage vers le sud de l'Atlantique et autour du cap Horn jusqu'à l'océan Pacifique, dans le but d'agrandir les pêcheries de cachalots, et d’autres objets de commerce, en vérifiant les ports, les baies, les havres, les postes d'amarrage dans certaines îles et côtes des mers dans lesquelles les navires marchands britanniques pourraient être remis en état. Cette carte, publiée en 1798 par le célèbre cartographe londonien Aaron Arrowsmith, retrace l'itinéraire du Rattler. C’est la première carte de navigation exacte de ces îles. Les îles Galapagos sont une province de l'Équateur.
English: In 1793, Captain James Colnett of the Royal Navy in the merchant ship Rattler undertook a survey of the Galapagos Islands. Colnett was on an extended voyage to the Pacific that he chronicled in a book published in 1798 under the lengthy title A voyage to the south Atlantic and round cape Horn into the Pacific Ocean, for the purpose of extending the spermaceti whale fisheries, and other objects of commerce, by ascertaining the ports, bays, harbours, and anchoring births in certain islands and coasts in those seas at which the ships of the British merchants might be refitted. This map, published in 1798 by the famous London map-maker Aaron Arrowsmith, traces the route of the Rattler and is the first accurate navigation chart of the islands. The Galapagos Islands are a province of Ecuador.

Português: Em 1793, o Capitão James Colnett da Marinha Real, no navio mercante Rattler, realizou uma pesquisa das Ilhas Galápagos. Colnett fez uma extensa viagem ao Pacífico, a qual ele relatou em um livro publicado em 1798 sob o longo título de Uma viagem ao Atlântico Sul e em volta do Cabo Horn até o Oceano Pacífico, no intuito de estender a pesca de baleias cachalotes, além de outros objetos de comercialização, através da averiguação dos portos, baías, cais e pontos de ancoragem em certas ilhas e litorais daqueles mares, nos quais os navios da marinha mercante britânica possam ser reequipados. Este mapa, publicado em 1798 pelo famoso cartógrafo londrino Aaron Arrowsmith, traça a rota do Rattler e é o primeiro mapa de navegação correto do arquipélago. As Ilhas Galápagos são uma província do Equador.
