Title
Rue Tirechappe, View from the Rue Saint-Honoré
Description
English: The lower walls along this narrow street are covered with posters, despite the signs prohibiting them, while painted advertisements fill the overhead spaces. Shortly after Charles Marville made this photograph the street would disappear entirely, demolished as part of Baron Haussmann's restructuring of Paris's principal boulevards. A larger, straighter street that ran from one end of a bridge across the River Seine through this old neighborhood to the new central produce market, les Halles, replaced this passageway.
