Pines. Its waters overflow, by way of a steepand stony channel, into a much larger pond, with shores butlittle raised above the water, which occupies the southernthird of a long level, through which a slow brook meanders. The shore of this pond and all the flat land near the brookare scatteringly wooded with large deciduous trees. Pathsreach little beaches on the shore at several points. Beyondthe head of the pond a path leads to a shelter on a knoUin the midst of deep woods, and thence by a sharp ascent toa high point on the very edge of the park, whence a prettyview will be had of the pond at ones feet and the MerrimacValley beyond, with the state-house dome in the middle dis-tance and near the middle of the picture. All things con-sidered. Concord is in a fair way to possess one of the mostcharming small parks in America. Why are gifts like this of Mrs. White to Concord not morecommon? Can any more valuable present to posterity beimagined ? Perhaps they may be commoner when it comes
