hich appeared in Grindleys experiments, and an examination of his results and curves shows, that hesucceeded. These curves afford a means of determining the amount ofsuperheat in steam at any given temperature and correspond-ing pressure, and also enables one to determine the validi-ty of the total heat equation as deduced from the charact-eristic equation. At any point near the saturation curve onany particular throttling curve, the total heat may be cal-culated by means of the total heat formula; the values of pand T must be determined at this point from the throttlingcurve. The value of i being constant along this curve thevalue of p at any other point on the curve may be calculat-ed by assuming a value for T. In other words a calculatedthrottling curve can be deduced and should it coincide withthe experimental throttling curve, the validity of the tot-al heat equation is established. Pig. 5 shows the agreementof the calculated throttling curves with the curves ofGrindley and Peake.
