challenges of making masks for getting 'automatic' detection of micronuclei in stained cheek cells

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Presented here is a 'screenshot' montage to depict different challenges for automatic detection algorithm development for participatory research, for the Wikimedia science image contest. An image of a fixed inner cheek cell stained with methylene blue, with a micronucleus at about '4 o'clock' of the cell is shown on the right, taken with a 40x objective and RaspberryPi camera in the lab Hackuarium, with the illustrator file with annotated layers as 'masks' for further coding work shown to the left. The problems of computer space and relating the frequency of micronuclei to health risks are also alluded to, in this montage. To overcome these challenges is well worthwhile, we believe!
